Need to train PG students in soft skills stressed

Shimoga: Special training programme to train the students of post graduate courses in soft skills need to be planned, said Kuvempu University Distance Education Director Prof.S.A.Bari.

A career guidance and counseling programme for students was held under the aegis of the Alumni Association of Kuvempu University Department of English at Jnana Sahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta on Saturday. Speaking after inaugurating the programme,he said that proficiency in soft skills will help the students to land in green postures. Students of moffusil centres and rural areas are as smart and competent as those from metropolitan centres. However confidence need to be instilled among them to overcome the hesitation and express themselves in convincing manner. India has emerged as hub of business process outsourcing resulting in lucrative career options for youths. Education institutions have the responsibility of training the youths according to the requirement of the industry, he remarked. Highlighting the importance of team work in the modern business ambience, he said that students should be taught to sink their egos and strive to achieve the goals set to them. He suggested the students to adopt proper time management practices and to remain focused on their goals. Sharing the views, Department of Business Administration Head Dr.Hiremani Naik said that global economic melt down compelled the students to re-think on their career options. As a service sector is volatile to global economic fluctuations, manufacturing sector need to be strengthened he opined.

Department of English Dr.Rachel Bari, Dr.Divakar Rao of JNNCE, Alumni President Sitaram J.A. Vice-President Vinutha .H.M, Secretary Uthaiah P.N, Joint-Secretary Kiran Kumar.K. were present on this occasion.
